Jesus’ final words to the apostles before His Ascension into Heaven were “Go out to all the world and tell the Good News.” Apparently, they took those words very seriously because HERE WE ARE! I’ve realized that I don’t need to go to far-away places. There are plenty of ways that I can let His Light shine through me right here! Each of us are all called to be apostles, in our own neighborhoods, in our families and in our circle of friends.

My brother is the kindest man I’ve ever met. It’s hard to believe that we actually battled with each other growing up. He is a pillar of strength, a church-goer, faith-filled, hardworking, a family man and someone that people of all ages are drawn to like a magnet. He never speaks of Christ. He acts like Christ! He travels the country on business continuously but still puts faith and family first. He seeks out a cathedral or a church to attend mass whenever he’s on the road. He looks at his schedule and arranges to connect with friends and family even remotely on his path. He’s generous and thoughtful, remembering special dates and occasions through phone calls, cards and visits. He knows just the right words to say to make others feel special or offer his compassion. Christ shines through him with a radiant glow.

“It’s the simple things in life that matter.” Mother Teresa said, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” Last weekend, I had a Peer Ministry Retreat. Together, we learned leadership skills and did lots of community building activities to prepare us to better serve our teens, parish and the world outside. It is heart-warming to witness teens embracing their faith with a willingness to share it with others. Together, they will do great things with great love!

I’m an avid bicyclist. For decades, each year, I ride 100 miles to benefit finding a cure for those with Multiple Sclerosis. It’s important for me to become a member of a corporate team that matches the money that I raise for this cause. It’s a winwin for all! I ride my bike, my pledges and the corporation donate money and get a tax write-off and we’re all helping researchers put an end to this devastating disease that plagues suffering people. His Light is shining through me! It’s that simple! How will you allow His Light to shine through you?
