My Dear Parishioners,
This is the weekend we transition from the Christmas season to the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry. John the Baptist is instrumental in introducing his disciples to Jesus as he proclaims, “Behold the Lamb of God, the Promised One of God.” This piqued their interest and they began to follow him. Jesus sensed their presence and turned around asking, “What are you looking for?” They quickly answered, “Rabbi - where are you staying?” Jesus replied, “Come, and you will see.” The rest is history…
When we meet Jesus or search for a deeper relationship, Jesus asks, “What are you looking for?” The answer may take a while as we look into our hearts and discover that the Lord has already invited us to follow Him, to be His disciple … to come and see what it’s all about. Perhaps we have been called many times (like Samuel) but have never realized it was the Lord calling us, the voice was unfamiliar. Maybe we also need to ask the Lord a question too, “What are you looking for from me? What are You asking of me?” Like Samuel when we are ready, we can say, “Speak Lord, your servant is listening… I am ready to come and see… to follow you… to be your disciple.”
