In 1977, Our Lady of Consolation's Founding Pastor, Carl Wolsin, reached out to Janet Graniere to request assistance. This was fourteen years after the parish was established. He proposed that the women of the parish would benefit from a group that pulled them together to enjoy the fellowship of each other. Janet accepted the challenge and embarked on a journey to establish an organization that had enabled countless hours of joy, entertainment, companionship and purpose over the last 40 years.
Amity is that organization. Amity, the name adopted by the women'sclub of OLC, is defined as "a state of friendship andcordiality." A Constitution and By-Laws were developed in 1978 by the early group of volunteers to provide the guiding principles of the purpose and activities of the Amity Club. It begins with these stated objectives.
"There is a place forevery woman in the Amity Club of Our Lady of Consolation. Organized to appeal to many interests, Amity coordinated the activities of your choice. Unity of members is achieved through monthly meetings, each with a stimulating and worthwhile program, through a yearly common goal which all members support and through the activities of the Executive Board, of which each circle leader is a member.
The Amity Executive Board consists of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Common Goal Leader and a Circle Leader of each Interest Group. The Board meets once a month to plan and coordinate all club activities.
Circles are activity groups bound by common interests. Each Circle Leader will contribute new information and input at the general meetings necessary for the efficient operation of Amity. Each Circle Leader hels the activity chairwoman to cordinate the Interest Group.
It may happen that you fail to find some activity or do not want to share a Common Goal, but would like to give a bit of friendship which is ours for the taking. Welcome!
