Today we acknowledge the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity.
We live in a three-dimensional world. Physical objects have a certain height, weight and depth. One person can look like someone else, or behave like someone else or sound like someone else. But a person cannot actually be the same as another person. We are all distinct individuals.
God the Son (Jesus) is fully, completely God. God the Father is fully, completely God. And God the Holy Spirit is fully, completely God. Yet there is only one God. It is a challenge for all of us to understand the Trinity. In our lives, there are just things that cannot be explained or proven by human standards - this is where our Faith comes in. I recently read an article discussing the Trinity and it gave a great math example to help understand the Trinity - 1+1+1=3, but 1x1x1=1. Perhaps it is not that important for us to understand how there can be three persons in one God, but to just accept and embrace what it truly means.
