In today’s Gospel according to St. Luke, Jesus tells his disciples about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary—a challenge for the disciples and perhaps a greater challenge for us.
Prayer is an expression of our individual faith journey. We may pray, in gratitude, for the blessings we enjoy or a special request. In my Golden Years, I have learned that prayer is not only the recitation of words learned from the catechism as a youngster, a prayer book or prayer card, but also provides for precious time to spend with a Friend…a…Friend who knows and loves me more than I will ever know. A Friend who may not always give me what I want, but is always at my side to walk with me in the good and challenging times.
There have been times in my life and perhaps in yours, when there was only” one foot print in the sand.” The demand for our time today is greater than it has ever been and perhaps prayer has fallen to the bottom of our priority list.
As a seed needs to be cultivated to grow, our prayer life is important to the growth of our Faith. May we all take some time today for a Friend who asks so little and returns so much.
In Prayer,
