This week the readings focus on the parables of a lost sheep, the lost coin and the prodigal son. We also commemorate the 15th Anniversary of the tragic loss of many lives in the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001.
Some thoughts on the gospel parables…We are familiar with these parables; hopefully we realize that the Lord gave His attention to finding the lost sheep or coin at all cost. Notice, too, that when we lose our way or go astray, God’s loving desire is to seek us out long before we “come to our senses”. In all situations, there is rejoicing…something to ponder.
Today we recall 9-11-01—we remember where we were, what we were doing on that dreadful morning! Lives were lost, lives changed, first responders acted, chaos erupted; our world would never be the same. Yet, we never want to forget those whose lives were lost or forever changed, and we want to honor the extraordinary efforts of those who selflessly saved countless numbers of lives that day.
And so…We remember them…At the rising of the sun and its going down…
At the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of autumn…
When we are weary and in need of strength…
As long as we live, they too will live; for they are now a part of us as…
We Remember Them!
